12-Day Tour Itinerary

This itinerary is a sample and small items may be changed or rearranged to capitalize on additional opportunities and build the best adventure possible.

  • Day 1

    Barcelona

Welcome to Barcelona, one of the world’s most beautiful coastal cities. As our group arrives throughout the day, you may want to head straight to the beach for sunshine and a refreshing swim. This evening, we’ll gather for our first meal together, enjoying the flavors of Catalan cuisine. Afterward, stroll along the famed Las Ramblas boulevard and soak in the city’s lively spirit before resting up from your travels.

  • Day 2

    Barcelona

This morning we’ll explore the Gothic Quarter, Barcelona’s oldest neighborhood. Wander medieval streets, discover remnants of Roman walls, and marvel at the grand Gothic Cathedral. Step into cafés once frequented by Picasso and Gaudí, and feel the centuries of history beneath your feet. The afternoon is yours to visit the Picasso Museum, stroll through Olympic Park, or return to the beach. However you choose to spend your time, Barcelona will continue to reveal its charms.

  • Day 3

    Barcelona

It’s Gaudí day. No architect shaped Barcelona’s identity quite like Antoni Gaudí. With whimsical curves, vibrant colors, and almost dreamlike creativity, his masterpieces remain unlike anything else in Europe. Today we’ll visit his most famous works: the awe-inspiring Sagrada Família and the playful Park Güell. This is the day you’ll truly fall in love with Barcelona, and with Gaudí’s imagination.

  • Day 4

    Jaca

We’ll leave the coast behind and drive north into the Pyrenees, arriving in the historic spa town of Jaca. Once a crossroads of Romans, Moors, and the Kingdom of Aragon, Jaca blends mountain charm with deep history. Spend the afternoon wandering its walkable streets, exploring ancient fortifications, or unwinding in the region’s soothing thermal waters. Rest well because tomorrow the mountains call.

  • Day 5

    Jaca

Fill your pack with water and lunch as we set out for the Pyrenees. A short drive brings us to the Puerto Astún trailhead, where alpine lakes and rugged peaks await. Hike as far as you wish as the trail offers flexibility, with a total of up to eight miles roundtrip. Brave souls may even take a plunge into icy mountain waters. Prefer a slower pace? Jaca’s shops, cafés, and quiet streets make for a delightful day closer to town.

  • Day 6

    San Sebastián

Today we head west toward the Bay of Biscay, stopping in Pamplona for lunch. Known for its Running of the Bulls, this lively city offers a taste of Navarre’s history and culture. By afternoon, we’ll arrive in San Sebastián, a Basque gem nestled along three golden beaches. With its unique language, celebrated cuisine, and breathtaking coastal views, this city may just redefine your idea of the perfect seaside town.

  • Day 7

    San Sebastián

Enjoy a free day to savor San Sebastián’s beauty at your own pace. Lounge on one of its three beaches, wander atmospheric old town lanes, or hike into the surrounding headlands for sweeping views of the bay. Don’t miss sampling pintxos which is the Basque take on tapas. Whether you seek relaxation or adventure, San Sebastián offers a little of both.

  • Day 8

    Bilbao

We’ll journey along Spain’s Atlantic coast, taking time to explore charming villages and dramatic seascapes. A highlight awaits at Gaztelugatxe, an island hermitage connected to the mainland by a winding stone bridge that feels plucked from legend. After the walk, we continue to Bilbao, where art and energy converge. This afternoon, we’ll visit the world-renowned Guggenheim Museum. It is an architectural icon as dazzling as the works inside. The evening is yours to enjoy the city’s vibrant old town.

  • Day 9

    Segovia

This morning we head south, passing Madrid to arrive in the enchanting town of Segovia. Famous for its perfectly preserved Roman aqueduct and fairy-tale Alcázar Castle, Segovia will beguile you with its history and romance. A favorite of Spanish royalty, the town has witnessed coronations and intrigue across the centuries. Tonight, we’ll stay within its storied walls, soaking in the timeless atmosphere of this unforgettable place.

  • Day 10

    Madrid

Ease into the day with coffee and pastries before we set off for Madrid. After settling in, we’ll head to the Prado Museum, home to masterpieces by Velázquez, Goya, El Greco, and countless others. With more than 3,000 works on display, a curated scavenger hunt will help guide our visit. The evening is free to explore Madrid’s bustling neighborhoods or simply enjoy a leisurely dinner in Spain’s capital.

  • Day 11

    Madrid

Our day begins with an audio-guided walking tour that brings Madrid’s layered history to life, including everything from royal grandeur to darker chapters of conquest and empire. We’ll explore the lavish Royal Palace and learn how Spain’s fortunes shaped its art, architecture, and people. The afternoon is free for your own discoveries. Tonight, we’ll gather for a final cultural treat: a flamenco performance filled with passion, music, and movement.

  • Day 12

    Toledo

On our last day together, we’ll journey to Toledo, known as the “City of Three Cultures.” Here, Christians, Jews, and Muslims once lived side by side, leaving behind a unique blend of architecture and tradition. Our walking tour will guide us through winding streets and historic landmarks in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later, you’ll have free time to explore on your own before we return to Madrid for our farewell dinner.

What to expect

This is a group adventure right from the beginning and from the moment you sign up, we will make sure you feel prepared, excited, and supported. You'll hear history where it actually happened, gain confidence as a traveler, and experience the kind of camaraderie that only comes from shared adventure.

Before departure:

  • Group calls: You’ll be invited to two group calls where you can ask questions, meet fellow travelers, and get a feel for what’s ahead.

  • Packing lists & recommended reading: To help you prepare, we’ll send a packing list and recommended reading list ahead of time—so when you step off the plane, you're ready to immerse yourself in the journey.

While traveling:

  • Arrival: When you arrive, we’ll be there to greet you at the airport and take you to our hotel to drop your bags—no stress, no guesswork. You’ll receive a detailed itinerary booklet, and everything you need to start exploring immediately.

  • Balance of structure & freedom: Each day begins with breakfast at your hotel before setting out on that day's adventure. Expect a mix of guided walking tours that bring history to life and free time to explore at your own pace. Lunchtime? We’ll point you to the best local spots. When it’s time to meet for an afternoon activity, a quick WhatsApp notification will keep you on track.* Evenings are for sharing stories and enjoying great meals together. As we walk to dinner as a group, you'll find yourself laughing over the day’s experiences and forming friendships that will last long after the trip ends. Before bed, you'll receive a message with any updates for the next day’s itinerary.

*We use a WhatsApp group to communicate with everyone in-country and alert you to potential schedule changes. You will be required to use this platform during our trip. A key benefit of using WhatsApp is that it doesn’t require cell service to function—as long as you have a data package, you will be able to stay in contact with everyone. This can be a significant cost savings if you opt for purchasing an eSIM card for the country.

  • You can expect 3-star accommodations in central, walkable locations with lots to see and do right outside the hotel door. Rooms will be comfortable but not luxurious. You’ll want to be prepared to climb stairs because many of the prime-location hotels that we stay in do not have elevators.

Rooming assignments: Our tour is priced based on double occupancy, so if you’re joining us as a solo traveler you will be paired up with a roommate unless you purchase a single room supplement at the time of booking.

  • Breakfast and most dinners are included in your trip fee (see list of inclusions below for more details). Each morning you’ll eat breakfast in the hotel and each evening our group will gather for dinner together in delicious local restaurants. You will be responsible for your own lunch, but we will always be happy to make recommendations.

Vegetarian options are always available. Other special diet requests should be made at the time of booking. While we will make every effort to accommodate you, we cannot guarantee options for all dietary needs in every location.

  • Once you’ve signed up for a trip we will send you a packing list. We always plan an opportunity to do laundry approximately halfway through the trip and most pack in carry-on sized luggage.

While not required, packing in a carry-on can avoid logistical nightmares if an airline loses your luggage. And they’re easier to carry up hotel stairs!

What’s included—and what’s not

We want you to feel confident about what’s covered in your trip cost and what extra expenses to plan for. By covering the essentials and giving you flexibility in other areas, we ensure a balance of structure and freedom—so you get the most out of your trip.
